Through evaluation of experimentation with materials and methodologies during my recent BA (Hons) Fine Art Sculpture course, my objective is to consolidate those learning experiences, by focusing on media glass and metal for my sculpture. My focus has been centred upon ‘restriction' caused to the body by the physical processes of pain – the nerve pathways involved within the spinal column and movement of messages to the brain. My intention has been to make different statements through the media, process and form, regarding this aspect of the human body. The methodologies I learnt whilst researching, included exploration in the area of glass-slumping and fusing techniques, and the combination of these with metal. A key objective of my work is to use recycled materials as much as possible. Both metal and glass being natural media, from the earth's formations and cycles, is an important element of my choice to work with them.
